The Day After Tomorrow

Tomorrow is Election Day in Oklahoma. Primary races in both Parties will take place all across the state to select our nominees. While much has been made of the contested GOP primaries from the Presidential race all the way down the ticket, we at the State Party are actually focused on the day after tomorrow. That is the day, barring runoffs, we as conservatives must come together in support of our nominees.

"The mathematics of politics is about addition and multiplication, it’s not about division and subtraction." - Haley Barbour

At the Presidential level, whoever wins will need about 75 million votes. To get 75 million votes, you’ve got to be a big, broad political party. If everybody has to agree with Matt Pinnell on everything to be a Republican, we wouldn't win elections in some places. And I can assure you if every Democrat had to agree with Oklahoma Democratic Chairman Wallace Collins, they wouldn't win many races at all!

At the state level, we have competitive primaries all across the state- welcome to the natural progression of a growing party. Pick a candidate, campaign your heart out for them, but the day after tomorrow we will have our nominees...and it will be time to support them. Reagan used to say the fellow who agreed with you 80% of the time is your friend and ally, and not a 20% enemy.

Somebody who is far, far better than the Democrat (i.e. our Republican nominees) has got to be our choice -- even if he/she isn't perfect. There was only one perfect candidate who walked this Earth and He isn't on the ballot.

It's also important to note that a Democrat isn't going to listen long to your concerns as a dedicated, registered Republican. Want to reduce your state tax burden? Good luck. Want a more efficient and effective government? Good luck. On the other hand, if you have a Republican representative you can bird dog him/her for the next two years, and many of you are!

Governor Haley Barbour, who as RNC Chairman in the mid 90's helped usher in the '94 Republican Revolution, often says, "The mathematics of politics is about addition and multiplication, it’s not about division and subtraction."

The day after tomorrow we are going to add and multiply to this Party in order to save this country from a far from perfect president and ensure we hold our common-sense conservative majority here in Oklahoma. The day after tomorrow...it couldn't come soon enough.
