The State Election Board released its official, pre-election voter registration statistics on November 1, which showed a surge in voter registration in advance of Tuesday’s General Election, State Election Board Secretary Paul Ziriax announced Thursday.

Oklahoma’s voter registration rolls saw a net increase of 114,103 voters since January 15 – including a net increase of nearly 47,000 in October. The deadline to register to vote for the General Election was October 12.

Since January 15, Republicans had a net increase of 67,368 voters, while Democrats had a net increase of 21,564 and Independents had a net increase of 25,153.  There are also now 18 voters registered as Americans Elect, which became a recognized political party in the Spring.

Democrats still have the most registered voters in the state, but have slipped to 45.6% of all voters. Republicans have grown to 42.4% of registered voters and Independents have grown to 12%. In January, Democrats were 47.1%, Republicans were 41.4%, and Independents were 11.5% of registered voters.

Among “active” registered voters, the major parties are nearing parity: 45% Democrats, 44% Republicans, and 11% Independents. (Inactive voters are allowed to vote and can “reactivate” their status by voting or initiating a change in voter registration.)

-          DEMOCRAT: 964,847 (45.6%)

-          REPUBLICAN: 895,625 (42.4%)
