This is the first of our OKGOP Candidate Spotlight series which will highlight the campaigns of our Republican nominees for office this November.
I am running to represent the people of District 5 in the Oklahoma Senate after much prayerful consideration and after the urging of a large number of citizens here in SE Oklahoma. I have something to offer that Oklahomans in this district have never experienced – a TRUE conservative voice as the people’s representative in the Oklahoma Senate.
In an area of the state known for entrenched Democrats and good old boy politics, I have been a proven and reasoned voice for the values and principles presented by the Republican Party and have never apologized for my conservatism or my philosophy. The political reality is clear: the time is now and the time is right for Republican representation in our district. SE Oklahoma deserves a seat at the table throughout the entire legislative process in Oklahoma City, and when elected I will be an unwavering proponent of individual liberty, economic freedom, pro-growth, pro-business, fiscal responsibility, effective education, and property rights (just to name a few).
My opponent, longtime incumbent Jerry Ellis, has little input and influence given his membership in the Democrat minority. My opponent is also term-limited in 2014. Given the Senate’s 4-year terms, he will be unable to fulfill his obligations for a full term. SE Oklahoma is facing issues of tremendous right now! As many voters have wondered, “Why apply for a job you can’t complete?” Even a cursory examination of my opponents’ time in the State Senate reveals a picture of ineffective representation and big government tendencies. Of prime example is his SB1556 bill which would have nullified conceal-carry reciprocity agreements between Oklahoma and the other states.
The good people of SE Oklahoma deserve better, and our great state of Oklahoma deserves better. I can do better…I WILL do better. With endorsements from proven conservative leaders in Oklahoma like Labor Commissioner Mark Costello, I have won the respect of both Democrats and Republicans across the state.
If you live in SD5, I am asking for your vote, your support and your prayers. If you are outside SD5, the Howard Houchen for State Senate 2012 campaign asks for your support and your prayers, and we thank all of you for making Oklahoma the center of the beacon through which the light beams from this Shining City on a Hill.
