Chicago Tribune: “With A Choice Bold Rather Than Safe, Mitt Romney Is Chiding His Fellow Americans — Politicians Included — To Get Serious.”
Governor Romney has picked a running mate, and it has changed this election. Congressman Ryan's addition to the ticket shows Gov. Romney made the right decision that this campaign will be about a conservative governing agenda. A clear choice between tax and spending cuts, deficit reduction and entitlement reform; policies that will literally save this country.
It's pretty simple, Romney-Ryan equals a renewed focus on the founding principles that made this country great, or the Obama-Biden plan that will turn this country into Europe. As Ryan said in his announcement speech, "We won't replace our founding principles we will reapply them."
Many have rightly noted that Ryan would never have agreed to join a ticket that was not serious about enacting and implementing conservative policies, and Romney knew he was committing to these policies by picking him. Make no mistake about it- this is a serious ticket, not energized by political games but instead solutions to fix this country.
The Romney-Ryan ticket will become official in a few short weeks when they are nominated at the RNC Convention in Tampa Bay. The attacks, however, have already begun. The debate over Medicare and tax cuts will get ugly, but these are debates that we must have, and win, in order to save this country. Romney made his first presidential decision with this choice, and it was one of a statesman. A politician avoids tough issues, a statesman doesn't. It's time to get serious about the problems we are facing in this country, and a Romney-Ryan ticket will do just that.
The New York Post added: "Americans are desperate for a serious, intelligent, down-to-bedrock debate on the economy — and on the nation’s future. With Mitt Romney’s blockbuster selection yesterday of Paul Ryan as his running mate, they’re now sure to get one.”
They are going to get a debate alright, and we must win it.
