Action Alert: Democrat Chair Compares Conservatives to Timothy McVeigh

News | 26 Apr 2012

“Is he (Matt Pinnell) forgetting the fact that the bombing was done by somebody of his bent – in other words a right-winger? If Timothy McVeigh were alive today, he most likely would be a Tea Partier.” -Oklahoma Democrat Chairman Wallace Collins

You read that right. That was the leader and spokesman for the Oklahoma Democrat Party, Chairman Wallace Collins, responding to inquiries into why the White House chose not to issue a statement on the 17th anniversary of the Oklahoma City Bombing.

Chairman Collins' reaction was to compare a majority of Oklahomans to the worst domestic terrorist in American history.

On Tuesday, Oklahoma Republican Party Chairman Matt Pinnell called on Collins to apologize for his offensive and disgusting comments. But rather than apologize, Collins decided to double-down on his comments and refused to apologize.

Now, the Oklahoma Democrat Party is trying to change the subject, in the hope that Oklahomans will simply forget this insult and the story will go away.

But we're not going to allow that to happen. Comparing fellow Oklahomans to a convicted mass-murderer is beyond the pale.

We're asking our fellow Oklahoma conservatives to join us in demanding that Chairman Collins apologize for his offensive and inappropriate slander of a majority of Oklahomans. It is simply unacceptable for the leader of the Democrat Party to make such highly-charged and offensive comments.

Please call Oklahoma Democrat headquarters, the Democrat leader in the State House - Scott Inman, and the Democrat leader in the State Senate - Sean Burrage.

Tell Chairman Collins and Democrat leaders that this offensive language is not welcome in Oklahoma and we demand an apology for insulting a majority of Oklahomans.
